Bryan Acheampong Is The Best VP Choice For Dr. Bawumia—Ampaw

Legal practitioner and political commentator Maurice Ampaw has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership to select Dr. Bryan Acheampong as the vice-presidential running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 general elections.

In a recent interview on Wontumi TV, Ampaw praised Dr. Acheampong—the MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture—as an energetic, youthful, and complementary figure who would bolster Bawumia’s ticket. He highlighted Acheampong’s strong grassroots backing, appeal to younger voters, and political dynamism as key strengths that could enhance the NPP’s electoral chances.

Ampaw pointed out that the Ashanti Region has solidly embraced Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer, making a running mate from outside that region—like Acheampong—a strategic choice to widen the ticket’s appeal across diverse demographics. He emphasized that Acheampong’s confidence and experience position him ideally for the role.

The commentator further asserted that, had Dr. Acheampong and Kennedy Agyapong contested the flagbearership without Bawumia in the race, Acheampong would likely have emerged as the frontrunner, underscoring his significant standing within the party. Ampaw also commended Dr. Osei Adutwum as a promising leader for Ghana’s future.

However, he expressed reservations about Kennedy Agyapong as a potential vice-presidential pick, arguing that there is insufficient political chemistry between Agyapong and Bawumia to form an effective partnership.

Ampaw’s endorsement comes amid rising internal discussions within the NPP about the vice-presidential selection, though some party figures maintain it is too early to prioritize the matter. Dr. Bawumia, Ghana’s former Vice-President (2017–2025), secured the NPP’s 2028 presidential nomination following the party’s primaries held in early 2026. Meanwhile, no official announcement has been made regarding his running mate.

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who contested the flagbearership, remains a prominent voice in the NPP, known for his strategic insights and efforts to promote party unity.
As debates over the NPP’s 2028 ticket continue among supporters and analysts, Ampaw’s public support for Acheampong adds momentum to the conversation on building a strong, balanced leadership team to challenge for power in the upcoming elections.
