Virgin Atlantic Names Anthony Uphill As Vice President Of Sales To Drive Growth

Anthony Uphill says he is looking forward to working with the talented sales teams and the joint venture and SkyTeam partners to drive sustainable revenue growth

Virgin Atlantic has appointed Anthony Uphill as its new Vice President of Sales, bringing aboard a seasoned commercial executive to lead the airline’s push for stronger performance in the corporate and agency market.

In the role, Uphill will carry direct accountability for Virgin Atlantic’s corporate and agency sales operations, while working closely with joint venture partners Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM. He will also be charged with identifying new revenue growth opportunities through the SkyTeam alliance and across Virgin Atlantic’s wider global partner network.

Uphill arrives with a resume shaped at some of the most recognisable names in international travel. He has held senior commercial sales positions at two major global airlines and brought that airline-side expertise into the corporate travel world through leadership roles at Amex Global Business Travel.

Most recently, he served at Amex Travel, where he held commercial responsibility for the company’s international airline partner portfolio — driving strategic revenue growth and delivering premium benefits for American Express’s high-value card members.

That blend of airline and corporate travel experience positions him squarely for a role that demands fluency on both sides of the B2B relationship.

Uphill said he has long admired the Virgin Atlantic brand and sees the timing of his appointment as an opportunity rather than a challenge.

“The airline has a powerful brand, a differentiated premium proposition and strong global partnerships, which together create significant opportunity in the corporate and agency space,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working with our talented sales teams and our joint venture and SkyTeam partners to drive sustainable revenue growth, deepen our strategic relationships and deliver exceptional value for our customers worldwide.”

Chief Commercial Officer Dave Geer described the appointment as a deliberate choice for a business entering a new phase of its commercial evolution.

“Anthony brings a wealth of global commercial experience and a deep understanding of the evolving needs of corporate and agency customers,” Geer said. “As we continue to strengthen our partnerships across our joint venture and the wider SkyTeam alliance, Anthony’s expertise will be instrumental in accelerating performance and unlocking new growth opportunities across our global network.”
