The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has officially launched a major environmental initiative in the Western Region, joining forces with the Forestry Commission, mining firm Zijin Golden Ridge Ghana, and local stakeholders to rehabilitate 50 hectares of damaged forest cover within the Subri River Forest Reserve at Sekyere Krobo.
Unveiled on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the five-year reforestation project serves as a cornerstone of MIIF’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Biodiversity strategy. The goal is to revitalize degraded ecosystems, safeguard native flora and fauna, and embed sustainable land management practices directly into Ghana’s resource-rich zones.
Key Reforestation Project Details:
- Lead Agency: Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF)
- Key Partners: Forestry Commission, Zijin Golden Ridge Ghana
- Target Site: Subri River Forest Reserve (Sekyere Krobo, Western Region)
- Land Scope: 50 hectares of degraded forestland
- Timeline: 5-year sustained rehabilitation plan
- Strategic Focus: ESG compliance, biodiversity recovery, community stewardship
Speaking during the official launch, MIIF Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Justina Nelson stressed that ecological restoration demands continuous commitment rather than simple ceremonial tree planting.
New Plan To Beautify Ghana’s Cities With Private Business Funding
Mrs. Nelson emphasized that the long-term success of the 50-hectare tract hinges on ongoing monitoring, consistent nurturing, and active local community involvement.
Protecting forest reserves is a critical duty to ensure future generations inherit viable ecosystems alongside economic benefits.
Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with technical experts at the Forestry Commission and private-sector players like Zijin Golden Ridge Ghana ensures rigorous operational oversight and proper protection of the restored areas.
As environmental impact and land degradation remain pressing concerns around mining operations, this collaboration illustrates how state resource funds can balance mineral revenues with environmental responsibility.
By dedicating mineral income toward environmental rejuvenation, MIIF is setting a precedent for public-private collaboration in sustainable resource management—demonstrating that national wealth extraction can coexist with long-term ecological preservation.
