From Viral Outrage To Relief: Ama Daaku Steps In For Bills Micro-Credit Victim

Ellen Ama Daaku

NPP Communications Officer and an Aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ellen Ama Daaku has stepped in to settle the debt of a woman who was allegedly assaulted by staff of Bills Micro-Credit Limited during a loan recovery attempt — an incident that sparked widespread outrage after a video of the altercation went viral.

The video, which circulated on March 14–15, 2026, showed employees of the microfinance company roughly handling a 36-year-old woman carrying a baby over an unpaid loan of approximately GH₵300. The footage drew immediate public condemnation, with many decrying the aggressive tactics used against the customer over such a small sum.

Bills Micro-Credit responded by suspending the staff members involved, handing them over to the Ghana Police Service for investigation, and indicating it was engaging directly with the affected woman.

However, it was Ama Daaku’s intervention that captured public attention. Appearing on Angel FM’s Angel Morning Show on Monday, March 16, she told host Saddick Adams she was deeply disturbed and angered by what she had seen. Through the show, she not only cleared the woman’s outstanding balance but paid beyond the amount owed — a deliberate gesture of goodwill intended to go beyond simply resolving the debt.

The live moment drew praise as a rare instance of a public figure turning media outrage into direct, tangible relief for a victim.

The incident has reignited debate in Ghana over ethical standards in debt collection within the microfinance sector — particularly the use of aggressive tactics to recover small loans — and the role media platforms and public figures can play in holding such institutions accountable.
