President John Dramani Mahama has etched his name in history as the first African leader to receive the International Statesperson Award from the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia — the organisation’s highest recognition for outstanding global leadership.
First conferred in 1973, the prestigious accolade honours distinguished world figures whose work has advanced peace, freedom, and left an enduring mark on international affairs.
The council cited Mahama’s contributions to democratic governance, diplomacy, and his sustained efforts to strengthen international cooperation and dialogue as the basis for the recognition.
The award ceremony drew diplomats, policymakers, and global leaders who gathered to celebrate his legacy of promoting peace, democracy, and development — both in Ghana and on the world stage.
