MTN Group has strengthened its executive bench with the appointment of Amitha Chetty as Executive: Legal, effective 1 May 2026. The move brings a seasoned legal mind into one of the continent’s most expansive telecommunications groups at a moment when MTN is doubling down on governance, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth across its diverse market portfolio.
Chetty arrives at MTN with a professional profile shaped by some of the most demanding environments in corporate law. An admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and holder of a Master of Laws degree in Corporate Law, she has built her career navigating the intersection of legal, regulatory, and commercial strategy across multinational and heavily regulated industries.
Her background spans senior leadership roles in the banking and financial services sectors, where she earned a reputation for guiding organisations through intricate cross-border challenges. Her work has included leading multi-jurisdictional regulatory and tax due diligence processes, shaping international strategy, and advising boards and executive teams on complex matters that cut across legal systems and regulatory frameworks. That breadth of exposure — at both the operational and boardroom level — is precisely the profile MTN was seeking for the role.

In her new position, Chetty will carry a wide-ranging mandate that spans the legal needs of MTN’s operations across multiple African and Middle Eastern markets. Her responsibilities include reinforcing legal governance structures across the group, supporting strategic transactions and major corporate initiatives, and driving the implementation of MTN’s Group Legal and Regulatory strategy.
The appointment reflects MTN’s broader institutional priorities. The group has been investing steadily in strengthening its governance frameworks and operational discipline — efforts that have taken on added urgency as MTN navigates regulatory complexity across more than a dozen jurisdictions while pursuing growth ambitions in an increasingly competitive landscape.
Chetty’s combination of legal depth, commercial acumen, and hands-on board-level experience is expected to anchor and elevate the group’s Legal and Regulatory function at a critical juncture — reinforcing MTN’s commitment to integrity, compliance, and the highest standards of corporate conduct.
