A strange and bizarre tale about the cremated bones of iconic musician Tupac Shakur has surfaced almost thirty years after his passing.
According to TMZ, Suge Knight, the former boss of Death Row Records, asserts that when Tupac was cremated after his death in 1996, some of his closest friends and family members smoked some of the rapper’s ashes.
Knight, who was in Las Vegas with Tupac the nite the rapper was shot, claimed that shortly after his passing, Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother, requested that her son be cremated. Knight claimed that once the ashes were brought to a hotel room, they were purportedly made into multiple marijuana blunts and smoked.
However, Knight said that he was not involved in the episode. According to reports, he informed Tupac’s mother that he was on probation at the time and was worried about getting into jail if he smoked the ashes.
The ‘Strange’ Side Of Tupac Shakur That History Often Forgets
At a memorial service in 2011, members of Tupac’s rap group, The Outlawz, openly stated that they had combined some of his cremated bones with marijuana and smoked them. They claimed that Tupac’s own lyrics served as the inspiration for the act, which was meant to serve as a symbolic means of preserving a piece of their comrade.
The claim that Afeni Shakur had given his approval to the conduct was later refuted by the Shakur family. At the time, a family representative told TMZ that no Shakur family member had authorized anyone to smoke Tupac’s remains. Additionally, the family stated that they had no idea if The Outlawz’s account was true.
Tupac died on September 13, 1996, six days after he was shot in a drive-by attack in Las Vegas. He was only 25 years old. Despite his death, his influence has continued to grow, with his music, poetry, acting career and social commentary keeping his name firmly embedded in popular culture.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis was convicted in August 2026 of orchestrating Tupac’s killing, becoming the first person convicted in connection with the rapper’s murder. Conflicting statements from people close to the rapper have kept the circumstances surrounding the alleged ritual controversial for years.
