NPP communications team member and former Deputy National Women’s Organiser, Ellen Ama Ofosuaa Daaku has publicly criticized the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) over its handling of a high-profile drug trafficking scandal involving a Ghanaian citizen detained in France.
Appearing on Angel FM’s Morning Show on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the Special Aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia voiced skepticism regarding the public account provided by NACOC Chief Executive Officer Twum Barima, asserting that the explanation falls short of reassuring the public.
Daaku argued that drug enforcement authorities failed to demonstrate adequate vigilance, missing crucial opportunities to apprehend suspects and intercept the illicit shipment before it departed domestic territory.
“They could have done better,” Daaku said, questioning the agency’s lack of swift action against individuals moving narcotics within local borders prior to international escalation.
According to Daaku, the reluctance or delay in detaining suspected couriers while still on Ghanaian soil ultimately exported the crisis, inflicting unnecessary damage on the nation’s global reputation.
