The Bank of Ghana has relaunched its Cyber and Information Security Directive, signalling a firm commitment to keeping pace with the cybersecurity demands of a financial system that is rapidly moving online.

The relaunch took place at Bank Square on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, bringing together senior central bank officials to reaffirm the institution’s resolve to protect Ghana’s digital financial infrastructure from an evolving threat landscape.

First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni set the tone in his welcome address, making clear that cybersecurity is no longer a back-office concern.

“Cybersecurity is no longer a technical issue,” he stated, “it is a matter of national and economic security.”

His remarks underscored the central bank’s view that as financial services migrate to digital platforms, the frameworks that protect them must keep pace.

Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama, who chaired the event, framed the directive within the Bank of Ghana’s broader regulatory outlook — one that seeks to balance protection with the freedom to innovate.

He pointed to the sweeping changes of the past decade, noting that mobile money, cloud computing and artificial intelligence have fundamentally reshaped how Ghanaians access and use financial services. The directive, he stressed, exists to ensure that transformation is built on a foundation that can withstand the threats that come with it.

The relaunch arrives at a moment when Ghana’s digital financial ecosystem is expanding at speed.

For the central bank, the message is clear: innovation is welcome, but it must be matched by security frameworks robust enough to protect both institutions and the millions of Ghanaians who depend on them.
