Chale Wote Art Festival Returns To Accra This August

The 2026 edition of the renowned Chale Wote Street Art Festival has been scheduled for Monday, August 10 to Sunday, August 16, bringing a week-long celebration of art, culture, music, film, fashion, and performance to the streets of Accra. Festival organizers and promotional partners announced the dates ahead of the event.

Organized by Accra Radio, Chale Wote has grown into one of Africa’s most influential street art festivals, drawing artists, performers, filmmakers, and cultural enthusiasts from across the continent and beyond. The festival is best known for transforming the historic communities of Jamestown and Osu into vibrant open-air galleries and performance spaces.

What to Expect at the 2026 Edition

Organizers have outlined several highlights for this year’s program, including:

  • The Day of Remembering and All-White Procession on August 10
  • The opening of the Shika Shika Art Fair and Artist Mixer
  • Film screenings and panel discussions featuring Ghanaian and international creatives
  • Cultural processions, including the celebrated Twins Procession
  • Street exhibitions, murals, live music performances, spoken-word sessions, fashion showcases, and food experiences
  • A grand finale weekend on August 15–16

Founded in 2011, Chale Wote — which translates to “friend, let’s go” in Ga slang — has evolved into a major platform for contemporary African creativity and cultural exchange. The festival remains free and open to the public, reinforcing its accessibility as a grassroots cultural movement.
