Ghana’s Air Force has received a new Airbus H175 helicopter, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing defence modernisation drive.
The aircraft — configured in a corporate ACH175 variant — touched down at the Air Force Base in Accra on Thursday, March 5, 2026, having been ferried directly from Airbus Helicopters’ headquarters in Marignane, France. Its arrival was marked with a water cannon salute, the customary aviation welcome reserved for new aircraft entering service.
The medium utility helicopter is expected to bolster the Air Force’s operational reach across a range of critical missions, including medical evacuation, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations.
The H175 is a twin-engine aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of approximately 7.8 tonnes. It accommodates up to 17 passengers, cruises at around 165 knots, and offers strong range and payload performance — making it well suited to both emergency response and utility roles.

This acquisition forms part of a broader, Parliament-approved procurement programme aimed at modernising Ghana’s military air fleet. Under the programme, the Armed Forces are set to receive one Airbus H160, three H175 helicopters — of which this appears to be the first — and a Dassault Falcon 6X long-range fixed-wing aircraft. The remaining deliveries are expected to follow.
The investment reflects the government’s commitment to rebuilding air capability, a priority that gained renewed urgency following a military helicopter crash on August 6, which exposed critical gaps in the country’s ageing fleet.
With this delivery, Ghana takes a meaningful step toward a more capable, versatile, and modern air force.
