Ghana’s Rent Control Department is set to introduce an Annual Rent Housing Conference, a new initiative designed to bring landlords, tenants, and housing stakeholders together in structured dialogue — and hopefully, greater harmony.
Acting Rent Control Commissioner Frederick Opoku made the announcement on Thursday, March 19, during an appearance on Radio Ghana 95.7FM, describing the planned conference as a much-needed platform for tackling the persistent tensions that define Ghana’s rental landscape.
According to Opoku, the gathering will draw together a broad cross-section of the housing ecosystem — tenants, landlords, policymakers, and industry experts — to collectively examine the challenges plaguing the rental sector and chart practical, workable solutions.

The Commissioner framed the initiative as part of a wider push to strengthen the effectiveness of the country’s rent laws and foster a better mutual understanding between the two sides of the landlord-tenant relationship.
He expressed optimism that making the conference an annual fixture would go a long way toward reducing recurring disputes, improving compliance with rent regulations, and creating a more stable, equitable rental environment for Ghanaians across the board.
With housing affordability and tenant-landlord friction remaining pressing concerns in many Ghanaian cities, the Rent Control Department’s move signals a more proactive, engagement-driven approach to an issue that affects millions of renters nationwide.
