An important turning point in the development of herbal medicine education in Ghana will be reached when the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) launches a Doctor of Herbal Medicine program.
By offering advanced clinical, research, and scientific education, the new program is anticipated to enhance the professional training of practitioners of herbal medicine. Additionally, it will strengthen KNUST’s standing as one of Africa’s top providers of evidence-based herbal medicine education.
For many years, KNUST has led Ghana’s herbal medicine education. Since 2001, the university has provided undergraduate instruction in the field through its Department of Herbal Medicine, producing graduates with both practical and scientific understanding in the safe and efficient use of medicinal herbs.
The next stage of the department’s development is represented by the launch of the PhD program, which reflects the increasing acknowledgement of herbal medicine as a crucial aspect of research and healthcare. Higher standards of professional practice, innovation, and the incorporation of scientifically proven herbal medicine into contemporary healthcare systems will all be aided by this action.
Additionally, the initiative supports Ghana’s ambitions to build a strong, research-driven traditional and alternative medicine market and is consistent with KNUST’s larger commitment to improving health sciences education.
