The University of Ghana has taken a bold step in strengthening its relationship with graduates around the world, launching the UGA Global Alumni Network App — a purpose-built digital platform designed to reconnect the institution with its far-flung community of alumni and channel their collective energy toward advancing its development agenda.
The initiative, driven by the University’s Institutional Advancement Directorate, marks a significant expansion of the institution’s outreach strategy, moving beyond traditional alumni engagement models to harness the connective power of digital technology. The launch brought together alumni group representatives, University officials, and key stakeholders united around a shared vision: building a vibrant, globally connected community of University of Ghana graduates.
Addressing the launch ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo positioned the app as far more than a communication tool — describing it as a strategic instrument for rebuilding and sustaining meaningful bonds between the University and those who have passed through its gates.
“The platform has been developed to facilitate meaningful interactions among alumni, encourage professional networking, promote mentorship opportunities and support alumni participation in initiatives that contribute to the University’s growth and development,” Prof. Amfo stated.
Her remarks underscored a broader institutional recognition that alumni are not merely former students but active stakeholders in the University’s present and future. The Vice-Chancellor was unequivocal: graduates hold immense value for the institution, and their influence — spanning industries and continents — is a resource the University of Ghana is now more deliberately seeking to mobilise.
Prof. Amfo used the occasion to issue a direct call to action, urging all alumni to register on the platform, update their personal and professional profiles, reconnect with former classmates, and actively participate in activities designed to strengthen the global alumni community.
What the App Offers
The UGA Global Alumni Network App is envisioned as a central digital hub through which graduates can stay informed about University developments, participate in events, access mentorship programmes, and contribute to long-term institutional initiatives.
University Of Ghana Emerges As One Of The Best In The World
At its core, the platform is designed to address a longstanding challenge facing large, globally dispersed alumni communities: the erosion of connection over time and distance. By providing a dedicated digital space for communication, collaboration, and engagement, the University hopes to restore and deepen a sense of belonging among graduates — regardless of where in the world they are based.
University officials are confident the platform will do more than simply reconnect old classmates. They see it as the infrastructure for a dynamic global network capable of driving innovation, facilitating knowledge exchange, and generating sustainable support for the institution’s future.
Harnessing a Global Network
With its graduates spread across virtually every major industry and country, the University of Ghana sits atop a potentially transformative alumni resource — one that, until now, has perhaps not been fully harnessed. The new app represents the institution’s most deliberate effort yet to change that.
Officials believe that by aggregating the expertise, influence, and resources of its alumni community through a single, accessible platform, the University can significantly amplify its impact — not just as an academic institution, but as a force for national and continental development.
The launch of the UGA Global Alumni Network App also signals the University’s broader commitment to digital transformation, as it aligns its administrative and community engagement functions with the realities of a technology-driven world. For an institution with the reach and reputation of the University of Ghana, the message is clear: its greatest asset may not be within its walls — but scattered across the globe, waiting to be reconnected.
The Institutional Advancement Directorate is taking the opportunity to invite all UG alumni across all year groups to register via https://ald.ug.edu.gh/ to join the global alumni network.
