Ghana Premier League winners Medeama SC will play one of the most fearsome clubs after the draw in the first preliminary round of the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League. The Ghanaian team has been paired with TP Mazembe, a formidable team from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The draw took place on Thursday at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo.
After playing the first leg at home on September 4–6, Medeama will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the second leg on September 11–13.
TP Mazembe is one of the most prominent clubs in Africa, having won multiple continental titles. But like they did in the 2023–2024 Champions League, Medeama will be looking to leave their imprint by going deep in the league once more.

If Medeama can defeat the Congolese powerhouses, they will move on to the second preliminary round, where they will play the winner of the match between Club Africain of Tunisia and Djoliba AC of Mali.
Although it would not be an easy run, the Ghanaian team is expected to put up an impressive performance to move on to the next round of the competition, making this match one of the most memorable ones of the preliminary round.
