Who Was Kwame Dzokoto? The Life And Career Of The Late ‘Efiewura’ Star

Kwame Dzokoto

Ghana’s entertainment world is mourning one of its most recognisable faces. Seth Kwame Dzokoto, known to millions as Kwame Dzokoto, died on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after collapsing during a radio panel discussion in Tarkwa. He was 51.

For many viewers he was affectionately called ‘Judge Koboo’ of Efiewura, and the warm host of TV3’s food and tourism show Edziban. His sudden death has stunned fans, colleagues and the broadcasting community he served for years.

What Happened in Tarkwa?

Reports say Dzokoto was a panellist on a morning programme at Owass Radio in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem area of the Western Region, where he lived, when he collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital in the mining town and pronounced dead on arrival.

The Western Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Kirk Mensah, confirmed the news and described him as a party comrade. No official cause of death has been announced. For now, the account rests on media reports and the party’s confirmation.

The Man Behind Judge Koboo

Dzokoto became a household name through his comic portrayal of Judge Koboo in Efiewura, a series that remains a fond memory for many Ghanaian viewers. His timing and screen presence made him a distinctive figure in local comedy. More recently, he appeared in the production Osumesi.

Putting Ghanaian Food on Screen

His career went well beyond acting. As host of Edziban, he took viewers through local eateries, traditional dishes and the country’s food culture. The programme won a CIMG TV Programme of the Year award in 2014, and it helped make Ghanaian cuisine a television subject before food content boomed on social media. The role showed he could be more than a comedian.

A Voice on the Radio

Dzokoto also built a broadcasting career on the radio, working with stations including Skyy Power FM in Takoradi and Hello FM in Kumasi. He once said radio was the medium closest to his heart, because it connects a presenter with listeners through voice alone. It is fitting, and heartbreaking, that his last moments came behind a microphone.

A Foray Into Politics

Dzokoto was also a committed NDC member. He contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat on the party’s ticket in the 2016 general election but lost to the NPP’s Mireku Duker. He later said he sought the District Chief Executive position for the area, although the appointment did not come through. His political life tied him to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem community, and his death resonates well beyond the entertainment industry.

Earlier Health Concerns

His death comes weeks after worrying images of him went viral. In September 2026, he appeared on television to dismiss rumours that he had died. He said he was dealing with high blood pressure and diabetes and had undergone surgery abroad, which he said was supported by businessman Ibrahim Mahama. He said he was recovering and thanked those who had shown concern.

Why Ghana’s Entertainers Deserve A Special Hall Of Fame

Those remarks are now drawing fresh attention. But no medical statement links his earlier conditions to his death, so any such connection is speculation.

The medical cause of death, any official statement from the family and funeral arrangements have not been confirmed. Fans, colleagues and the institutions he worked with are waiting for more information.
Tributes are likely to continue as people recall the humour, the food adventures and the voice of a man who entertained Ghana for years.
