Patience Enyonam Akyianu, Group Chief Executive Officer of Hollard Ghana Holdings and former Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana, has died. The circumstances surrounding her death have not been publicly confirmed.
Akyianu built a career spanning more than two decades in Ghana’s financial services sector. She joined Hollard Ghana in October 2018 as the company’s first Group CEO, arriving after years at Barclays Bank Ghana, where she served as Finance Director before rising to Managing Director, a role she held for five years — becoming the first Ghanaian woman to lead the bank in that capacity.
He contributions to the industry were formally recognised as recently as 2025, when she received the Millennium Excellence Award for Finance and Capital Market Excellence. That November, she was also appointed Board Chair of Hubtel, succeeding Hans Nilsson after a decade of his leadership — a role that reflected the continued trust placed in her judgment well beyond the insurance sector.

Her death comes just days after Hollard Life Assurance announced the appointment of Sosthenes K. Konutsey as its new Managing Director — an appointment Akyianu herself publicly welcomed on September 17, 2026, extending him into what she called the Hollard family.
Condolences have gone to her family, colleagues, and the wider business community, and industry players say, she will be remembered for helping to shape it.
