Former Ghana international Godwin Attram has been appointed assistant coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, in a move the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says will strengthen the team’s technical setup ahead of a demanding international schedule.
The GFA announced the appointment on Monday, September 21, 2026, confirming that Attram joins head coach Carlos Queiroz’s technical bench ahead of Ghana’s upcoming assignments.
According to the GFA, Attram takes over from Desmond Ofei, who previously combined Black Stars duties with his role in Ghana’s youth setup. Ofei will now concentrate solely on his job as head coach of the Black Meteors, Ghana’s U-23 side, as they prepare for their next Olympic qualification campaign.
The GFA describes the change as part of a broader effort to give each technical team clearer, non-overlapping responsibilities.
Attram, a former Black Stars midfielder, made nine appearances and scored one goal for the senior national team, with his playing career including spells at PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Silkeborg IF in Denmark.
After retiring from professional football, he moved into coaching, taking charge of Accra Great Olympics before becoming closely involved in Ghana’s youth national-team pathway.

In April 2024, the GFA appointed him head coach of the newly established U-21 national team, part of a wider rollout of coaches across the U-15 to U-21 age groups under Ghana’s football development philosophy. He also co-founded and coaches the Attram De Visser football academy, an operation he has run alongside his national-team work.
The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has congratulated Attram on the appointment, citing his playing pedigree and coaching background.
The GFA frames Attram’s arrival as part of its broader technical restructuring ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana opens that campaign this window, with qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire on September 23 and Gambia on September 27, followed by fixtures against Somalia in November.
Queiroz himself only returned to the role on September 2, 2026, after his previous short-term mandate — which covered Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign, ending in a round-of-32 exit to Colombia — expired. His new technical team, now including Attram, has limited time to prepare the squad for the qualifiers ahead.
For Attram, the move marks a return to the Black Stars environment in a new capacity — this time from the touchline rather than the pitch.
