During his visit to the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama took center stage at the NASDAQ market site on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to ring the closing bell.
The ceremony highlights an ongoing diplomatic push to showcase Ghana as a premier destination for international enterprise and finance.
Organized alongside the Presidency and the Information Services Department, the NASDAQ event is part of a broader itinerary aimed at connecting with world leaders, corporate executives, and institutional funds. During his trip, President Mahama is also participating in a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable hosted by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
This latest appearance reinforces the administration’s pattern of utilizing prominent financial exchanges to court global capital. A similar visit to NASDAQ was arranged during the 80th UN General Assembly in September 2025, and President Mahama opened trading at the London Stock Exchange on June 3, 2026.

During his London engagement, the President emphasized the strong performance of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), noting Bloomberg data from mid-May that ranked the GSE Composite Index as the world’s second-best performing index in 2026, boasting a 63.4% return. He pointed to these returns alongside improving national economic indicators to demonstrate the growing stability and opportunity within Ghana’s capital markets.
While in New York, President Mahama’s schedule includes an address at the Council on Foreign Relations and bilateral talks with international business leaders, culminating in his address to the UN General Debate on Thursday, September 24. Together, these appearances form a cohesive campaign to elevate Ghana’s visibility across global investment circles.
