Jordan Ayew Deserves Better Treatment – Songo To Critics

Sports journalist and broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang ‘Songo’ has come to the defense of Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew amid growing criticism from some Ghanaian football fans during the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on his show ‘Fire for Fire’ on Asempa FM on Thursday, June 25, Songo expressed disappointment over what he described as unfair attacks on Jordan Ayew, insisting that the forward should not be blamed for the team’s style of play and performances.

According to him, Ghanaians have spent years heavily criticizing Jordan’s elder brother, André Ayew, popularly known as Dede Ayew, and should not transfer the same treatment to the current Black Stars captain.

“If Ghanaians are done dragging Dede Ayew through the mud, they shouldn’t extend that to his junior brother Jordan Ayew,” Songo stated.

The outspoken presenter questioned why a section of supporters have singled out Jordan Ayew for criticism during Ghana’s World Cup campaign, arguing that the team’s tactical approach has limited the captain’s effectiveness in attack.

According to Songo, the Black Stars have spent much of their matches defending rather than creating attacking opportunities, making it difficult for Jordan Ayew to showcase his qualities in front of goal.

“The Black Stars have been defending instead of attacking. What do you expect Jordan Ayew to do?” he asked.

Songo further described critics of Ghana’s forward as hypocritical and dishonest, insisting that many of those attacking the player are ignoring the broader issues affecting the team’s performances.

He urged fans to be fair in their assessment of the captain and focus on the collective efforts of the team rather than directing blame at one individual.

Jordan Ayew has been a key figure for Ghana in recent years and currently leads the national team as captain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite mixed reactions from sections of the fan base, he remains one of the Black Stars’ most experienced players and an important figure in the squad.
