Prince Harry To Bring Private Security Team For UK Return

Harry and Markle are reportedly hoping to use the trip as an opportunity to reconnect with his father, King Charles, who has had limited contact with his grandchildren

Prince Harry is set to bring his own private security detail when he, wife Meghan Markle, and their two children travel to London next month for what insiders are calling a high-profile homecoming — one expected to generate intense media interest both in Britain and across the diaspora watching from afar.

According to sources familiar with the family’s plans, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are bracing for what one insider described as a “huge spectacle” surrounding their visit — the couple’s first joint trip back to the UK in four years. The visit comes as the Sussexes prepare to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, scheduled to take place in Birmingham from July 7 to 10 next summer.

Harry is reportedly hoping to use the trip as an opportunity to reconnect with his father, King Charles, who has had limited contact with his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

The visit unfolds against the backdrop of Harry’s ongoing dispute with the British Home Office over his security arrangements. Harry, who reportedly spends close to $3 million annually on private security while living in the United States, has yet to be granted the round-the-clock armed police protection he has been pushing for. His case remains, as one source put it, in a “holding pattern.”

Despite the impasse, Harry has been offered the use of a royal residence for the family’s stay, complete with private security. An insider added that while the family will not be travelling by private jet for this trip, they will bring their own bodyguards.
There is a catch, however: those privately hired guards are barred from carrying weapons on British soil, as only specially designated officers are authorised to be armed in the UK.

RAVEC Holds the Final Say

Decisions over Harry’s security status in the UK fall to the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), the body responsible for determining protection levels for senior royals and other high-profile figures.

Prince William To Offload Royal Estate For An Affordable Housing Drive

Sir Clive Alderton, King Charles’s Principal Private Secretary and the most senior aide at Buckingham Palace, sits among the eight members of the panel that holds sway over Harry’s case.

Harry has repeatedly argued that his father has the power to intervene. In comments to the BBC last year, he said there was “a lot of control and ability” resting in the King’s hands, adding that the matter “could be resolved through him — not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary.”

He went further, expressing regret over the toll the dispute has taken on his family.

“I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” he said, calling it “really quite sad” that he hasn’t been able to show his children his homeland.

A Courtroom Scare

The security concerns are not merely procedural. Back in January 2026, while Harry was at London’s High Court for his privacy case against the publisher of the Daily Mail, a known stalker — reportedly struggling with mental health issues — sat just feet away from him on two separate occasions, according to The Daily Telegraph. Harry’s private security team spotted the individual but, lacking official authority, could not intervene.

Prince Harry Challenges The Narrative Six Years After Royal Split

Sources close to the couple suggest the upcoming visit is being approached with full awareness of its optics.

“They know it will make the biggest spectacle,” one source said of Harry and Markle, adding that the couple will be looking to capture images of themselves “being ‘royal'” during the trip.

Whether the visit will also pave the way for a thaw between Harry and his brother, Prince William, remains uncertain. The two have not spoken in years, with their last face-to-face encounter coming at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
