Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings attended the High-Level Forum on the Financialization of Politics in Africa at the Kempinski Hotel as a member of the senior delegation.
In addition to policymakers, governance experts, and development partners, the Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency joined The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, and Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Deputy Minister for Finance, on behalf of Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, to discuss one of the key issues facing democratic governance in Africa.
Zanetor emphasized in her speech that although money plays a crucial role in politics, it should never dictate who has the chance to take the lead. In addition to undermining openness and public confidence, the financialization of politics increases volatility, political disenchantment, and democratic deterioration, all of which constitute a security concern.
In addition, she praised the ongoing efforts of the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) to create a model law on political finance, characterizing them as a crucial step in bolstering accountability, transparency, and democratic integrity throughout the continent.
