On March 4, 2026, during a four-day official state visit to Ghana by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Michael Drew of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis (often called St. Kitts and Nevis), the two countries signed several key agreements at Jubilee House in Accra.
An extension of the existing 2018 visa waiver agreement to now include holders of ordinary passports (not just diplomatic and service passports). President John Dramani Mahama announced that all Ghanaians can now travel to St. Kitts and Nevis visa-free, describing it as a “practical and transformative step” to boost tourism, trade, business, and people-to-people connections.
The agreement is framed as mutual visa exemption, though specifics on St. Kitts and Nevis citizens entering Ghana visa-free were already partially in place for certain passport types; this expands access significantly.
Other agreements signed:
- A Memorandum of Understanding for a political consultation mechanism.
- A bilateral labour agreement to facilitate recruitment of Ghanaian medical professionals (e.g., doctors, nurses) to work in St. Kitts and Nevis.
President Mahama Promises To Make Agriculture Attractive Again In Ghana
This builds on longstanding ties, with the Prime Minister’s visit inspired in part by President Mahama’s global engagements (including UN speeches). It’s part of Ghana’s “Accra Reset” initiative to strengthen international partnerships.
This is a big win for mobility, especially for tourism, business trips, or even exploring job opportunities in the Caribbean. While the agreement has been signed and announced, implementation details (like exact start date, duration of stay allowed, or any entry conditions) may still be finalized.
