Rasheda Hatchett-Nelson Is Now A Ghanaian Citizen: A Homecoming Story

Rasheda Hatchett-Nelson

Rasheda Hatchett-Nelson, a U.S.-based nurse, burnout prevention strategist, speaker, and entrepreneur, has officially been granted Ghanaian citizenship.

She shared the news publicly, expressing heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity. In a post across her social media platforms, she wrote:

“Today, I become a citizen of Ghana; Thank you President John Mahama for allowing me the opportunity to become a Ghanaian Citizen!”

The milestone fits within Ghana’s broader diaspora engagement efforts, including the landmark “Year of Return” and its successor, Beyond the Return — initiatives that have helped hundreds of people of African descent, particularly Black Americans, secure citizenship or residency as they seek to reconnect with their ancestral homeland.

The Hidden Reality Of Doing Business In Ghana

Hatchett-Nelson’s ties to Ghana predate her citizenship. As far back as March 2025, she had already made the emotional journey to the country, visiting Accra and local health centers and describing the experience as a homecoming more than 400 years in the making.

For her, the citizenship is more than a legal designation — it represents a profound act of reconnection and a meaningful contribution to the pan-African movement toward identity, belonging, and unity.
