Former NPP National Organiser Sammy Awuku has cautioned that the current government’s aggressive investigations into officials of the previous Akufo-Addo administration may end up working against the NDC in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’, Awuku argued that the sweeping nature of the probes — which have ensnared nearly all major appointees of the former government — risks generating a groundswell of public sympathy for the opposition NPP rather than cementing the NDC’s credibility on accountability.
“Ghanaians are watching,” he warned, suggesting that if the investigations are widely perceived as politically motivated, the backlash at the ballot box could hand the NPP a cleaner path to reclaiming power in four years.

Awuku was careful to acknowledge that accountability remains a cornerstone of good governance, but drew a firm line between legitimate scrutiny and what he described as a potential witch-hunt. He stressed that for any such process to command public confidence, it must be conducted with demonstrable fairness and transparency — failing which, it becomes a political liability rather than an asset.
His remarks land amid an increasingly charged political atmosphere following the change of government, as the NDC administration continues its review of contracts, policies, and decisions taken under its predecessor.
