Government Communications Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye has dismissed criticism directed at former President John Dramani Mahama over remarks that he is also a cocoa farmer, insisting there is nothing inappropriate about the statement.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the minister described the backlash as misplaced and argued that critics are misinterpreting the former president’s comments.
According to him, Mahama’s statement was meant to highlight his personal connection to agriculture and rural livelihoods, not to downplay the concerns of cocoa farmers.

Kwakye stressed that public figures can legitimately engage in farming and that such involvement should not be portrayed as insensitive. He urged commentators to focus on policy discussions affecting farmers rather than personal attacks.
Critics, however, have argued that Mahama’s remark sounded dismissive at a time when cocoa farmers are raising concerns about pricing and economic hardship.
