Chairman Wontumi In Western Region: A Big Push For NPP National Chair

Bernard Antwi Boasiako

Chairman Wontumi (Bernard Antwi Boasiako), the influential Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has kicked off a key part of his campaign to become the party’s National Chairman with engagements in the Western Region.

He recently toured the Western Region (and extended to Central, Volta, and Oti Regions in his broader push), meeting with regional and constituency executives to rally support for his bid. This is part of The Wontumi Project, aimed at building momentum ahead of internal NPP elections and positioning the party strongly for the 2028 general elections.

In the Western Region specifically, he engaged executives in places like Takoradi and other areas, receiving a warm welcome from the Regional Chairman, Nana Francis Ndede Siah, and others.

During interactions, Wontumi emphasized judging leadership on competence, strategy, and grassroots impact rather than factors like fluency in English. He described himself as a “grassroots man” committed to unity, reclaiming power in 2028, and embodying the NPP’s core values.

Reports highlight his “dazzling” engagements, with calls for party members to prioritize results-oriented leaders. He preached unity among NPP members and charged executives to focus on what he can deliver for the party’s growth.

Wontumi officially declared his intention to contest for National Chairman in early February 2026, following consultations and framing it as a call to unify and strengthen the NPP after recent challenges.

This tour builds on his long-standing influence in the Ashanti Region (three-time chairman) and his role in past campaigns, including support for figures like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
