A Plus Says Politicians Like Bawumia Need Him To Win

Kwame Asare Obeng

Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng — better known as A Plus — has made a bold claim about his weight in Ghanaian politics, asserting that figures like himself are often the difference between winning and losing power.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s ‘Changes’, A Plus pushed back against his critics, arguing that influence doesn’t have to come from inside government to matter. Those who shape public opinion and drive political conversation from the outside, he contended, are frequently the architects of electoral outcomes.

He made the point plainly:

“Some of us, if we’re not part of your government, you will never come to power. You can say anything about A Plus, but before Bawumia can come to power, you will need me.”

The statement is consistent with A Plus’s brand — outspoken, self-assured, and rarely short of a headline. His trajectory from entertainment and activism into elected office has given him a platform that straddles both popular culture and political commentary, a combination that carries genuine reach in Ghana’s media landscape.

His remarks land in the middle of an active conversation about who holds real influence ahead of future leadership contests — and whether that influence lives in party structures or in the court of public opinion.
