Qatar Rules Out Direct Role In Iran War Talks — But Leaves Door Open For Mediation

Qatar is not currently involved in mediation efforts surrounding the Iran conflict, the country’s foreign ministry spokesman Dr. Majed Al-Ansari confirmed on Tuesday, March 24, as missile and drone strikes on the country showed signs of easing after several days of sustained attacks.

Speaking to reporters, Al-Ansari said Qatar has no active role in ongoing talks between the warring parties, but signalled the country remains open to stepping in should the need arise.

“We stand ready to help, of course, if there is any role for Qatar — but right now our concern is in supporting these efforts and stopping the attacks on our country,” he said.

On the security front, authorities confirmed that no alerts had been issued in recent days over incoming missiles or drones from Iran, while urging the public to remain vigilant. Al-Ansari welcomed the development cautiously, noting that while no attacks had been registered in the past couple of days — which he described as a positive sign — the threat had not passed.

“That doesn’t mean that we have the luxury of not being vigilant anymore. We remain vigilant,” he said. “We are still in the eye of the storm.”

The spokesman also sounded a stark warning over attacks targeting energy infrastructure, calling them a deeply troubling precedent for the entire region. He stressed that civilian infrastructure represents the wealth of nations and must be protected under all circumstances.

Qatar, he added, reserves the right to respond to any attacks on its territory, though no such decision has been made. Despite the tension, Al-Ansari expressed confidence in the country’s security readiness.

“We are confident in our security apparatus right now and our response to the crisis,” he said.

Striking a broader tone, the spokesman underscored that regional coexistence remains the only viable path forward, regardless of the current hostilities.

“Total annihilation is not an option. We will live next to each other, and we have to find ways of living next to one another,” he said.
