Solomon Owusu, a former communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed that the party’s opposition strategy during former President John Dramani Mahama’s first term was intended to make his administration appear ineffective despite what he described as his government’s positive policies.
Solomon Owusu stated that he was an NPP member at the time and could speak from his experience within the party in an interview with Saddick Adams on Angel FM on Monday, July 27. He asserted that parts of the NPP launched a concerted propaganda effort to erode popular trust in President Mahama’s leadership.
He claimed that, in addition to policy disputes, the political climate of the period was molded by intentional efforts to cast the administration in a bad light.
He said,
“I was a member of the NPP at the time, and I can confidently tell they conducted a lot of propaganda to overthrow him.”
His remarks were made during a conversation regarding the current controversy surrounding President Mahama’s political destiny and the claims that he ought to be given a third term. In his speech, Solomon Owusu attempted to refute the notion that poor governance was the only reason Mahama’s first government failed, contending that political opposition played a role in the public’s impression of failure.
