Following a well-executed move including captain Portia Boakye, the Black Queens took the lead in the sixth minute thanks to striker Doris Boaduwaa, who calmly and elegantly rolled the ball over the Cape Verde goalie. Throughout the game, Ghana started controlling possession and produced multiple opportunities, while the Queens put on a dominant display.
Ghana maintained control and increased their lead in the second half after the Islanders let up an own goal while trying to clear a risky pass into the penalty area, despite Cape Verde’s tenacity in their first-ever WAFCON debut.
