The Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to intensify efforts to identify and remove individuals she describes as “disguised paedophiles” operating within Ghana’s schools.
Speaking on Adom FM on Friday, August 7, Janet Nabla expressed concern over reports of sexual misconduct involving some persons within educational institutions, stressing that schools must remain safe environments for children.
According to her, protecting children should be a national priority, and any teacher or school worker found guilty of abusing students must face swift disciplinary and legal action.

She argued that beyond dismissal, institutions must strengthen monitoring systems, encourage reporting of abuse, and ensure that victims receive the necessary support and protection.
Child protection advocates have repeatedly urged education authorities to improve mechanisms for detecting and preventing sexual abuse in schools. They have called for stronger background checks, better supervision, and effective complaint channels that allow students to report misconduct without fear.
Janet Nabla’s comments add to growing public discussions about the responsibility of schools, parents, and authorities in safeguarding children.
The PNP chairperson emphasised that anyone who uses their position of trust to harm children must not be protected, insisting that disciplinary measures should be applied without fear or favour.
Her remarks come amid renewed calls for accountability and stronger child protection policies across Ghana’s education sector, especially the recent incident at Obuasi.
