Ghana’s journey to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations starts with a challenging matchup against Côte d’Ivoire. The first game of the Black Stars of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign will be an away match against the Ivorians.
Following the qualifying draw in Cairo, Ghana was placed in Group C with Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, and Somalia.
The Black Stars will have to give it their best in Ghana’s match against Côte d’Ivoire, which is undoubtedly the toughest match in the group, in order to make it back to Africa’s largest football tournament after missing the last one.
The Ivorians won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and are still among the best footballing nations in Africa. Ghana will not have an easy time either.
A successful outcome in Côte d’Ivoire might give the Black Stars a significant boost and put them in a strong position in what could turn out to be a closely contested group.
International windows starting in September 2026 will host the qualifying group-stage matches, with the first matchday happening between September 21 and October 6.
Ghana’s next Group C matches are against Somalia and the Gambia. The Gambia should not be undervalued, especially in light of their recent rise to prominence in African football. Ghanaians will also be put to the test in Somalia.
