Ghana Targets Poultry Transformation With New Integrated Investment Partnership

The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat has convened the signing of the Heads of Terms for a proposed integrated poultry investment under the National Poultry Transformation Programme.

The initiative brings together Agrium Capital, Petra Pension Trust and Axis Pension Trust, with Ghana EXIM Bank expected to join the partnership as efforts intensify to establish a comprehensive poultry value chain in Ghana.

The proposed investment is designed to create an integrated poultry production system covering key areas of the industry, including feed production, breeding, poultry processing, cold-chain infrastructure, logistics and market access.

By connecting these components within a single value chain, the project is expected to strengthen domestic poultry production, improve efficiency and create opportunities for local businesses and farmers to participate in a more coordinated industry.

The signing of the Heads of Terms marks an important step towards formalising the investment partnership. The document will now serve as the basis for the development of a shareholders’ agreement, after which the partners are expected to move towards the implementation and delivery of the project.

How China’s New Zero Tariff Policy Could Transform African Exports

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to use the 24-Hour Economy framework and accelerated export development agenda to support productive sectors, deepen local value addition and reduce reliance on imported goods.

For Ghana’s poultry sector, an integrated approach covering production, processing, storage, transportation and access to markets could help address some of the structural challenges that have constrained the industry’s growth.

With the next phase focused on completing the shareholders’ agreement and advancing the project towards delivery, stakeholders will be looking to translate the partnership into tangible investment, increased production capacity and new opportunities across Ghana’s poultry value chain.
