Following a contentious incident over remarks he made against the former Second Lady, controversial Ghanaian political pundit Kevin Ekow Taylor is said to have apologized to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Second Lady Samira Bawumia.
Since the NPP Canada Branch recently urged action against Taylor for what it described as ongoing insults and divisive remarks directed against Samira Bawumia and the NPP, the reported apology has sparked a lot of internet controversy.
On September 1, 2026, videos of Taylor addressing the incident and apologizing to Samira Bawumia went viral. In one widely shared video, “Kevin Taylor Officially Apologize to Samira Bawumia & NPP,” it is implied that he made a direct appeal to Bawumia.
Taylor is said to have apologized soon after the NPP Canada Branch strongly warned him about his remarks.
The branch demanded on August 31 that the Ghanaian government take action against Taylor, accusing him of continuously attacking Samira Bawumia and making divisive remarks about the NPP.
The NPP Canada Branch Organizer, Yakubu Alhassan, also referred to as BigMo, made the demand. Alhassan warned that party organizers would step in if the government did not call Taylor to order within 48 hours.
“We stand for peace, discipline, and the good name of the NPP,” the organiser said, while also alleging that the NDC was backing Taylor. The allegation, however, was not accompanied by evidence in the statement.
The development brought Taylor’s relationship with both the NDC and NPP camps back into the spotlight and increased political tensions surrounding his recent remarks.
According to reports, Taylor apologized directly to Samira Bawumia in the video that is currently doing the rounds.
Some political observers and social media users are taken aback by the event, especially since Taylor has often been vocal in his criticism of prominent NPP figures.
While another source emphasizes Taylor’s denial that he is an NDC member and his showing of an NPP party card, a different video that is making the rounds online also characterizes his comments as an apology to Samira Bawumia. Given the long-standing belief among certain political rivals that Taylor is closely associated with the NDC, his alleged presentation of the party card has created yet another level of scandal.

Because Taylor’s political commentary has frequently been understood through the prism of Ghana’s fierce NDC-NPP rivalry, his alleged denial of being an NDC member is especially notable.
In a statement released on August 31, the NPP Canada Branch called Taylor an NDC activist and called for government action regarding his alleged attacks on Samira Bawumia.
But Taylor’s purported denial adds an alternative viewpoint to the discussion.
The latest controversy is not the first time the NPP has demanded an apology from Taylor.
In May 2026, the NPP condemned comments Taylor had made about former President John Agyekum Kufuor and demanded an unqualified public apology.
The party described the comments as disrespectful and argued that Kufuor, as a former president, should be treated as a national figure regardless of political differences. Taylor has consequently remained one of the most outspoken and controversial political commentators in Ghana’s public discourse, frequently attracting both strong support and criticism for his approach to political issues.
Taylor’s reported apology to Samira Bawumia could potentially ease some of the immediate tension between him and sections of the NPP, although it remains to be seen how party supporters and the wider political community will respond.
For some observers, the apology could be viewed as an attempt to draw a line under the controversy.
Others may scrutinise the circumstances surrounding the apology, particularly the timing, following the NPP Canada’s demand for action.
The reaction from Samira Bawumia herself and the national leadership of the NPP will likely determine whether the matter is considered settled.
