Following his performance at a concert in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, August 29, Lionel Richie was admitted to the intensive care unit.
On Monday, the 77-year-old singer checked himself into a nearby hospital to undergo testing. According to reports, doctors are investigating the origin of his ailment, but they believe it stems from mild dehydration.
The “American Idol” judge seemed to be having trouble finishing a recent performance, requesting a chair so he could take a seat during his last song, “All Nite Long.”
Richie had to sit down in the middle of the concert hours before being admitted to the intensive care unit because he appeared “weak” throughout the performance.
When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” Richie told the crowd.
The Grammy winner, however, has assured fans that he is “doing okay” despite having to halt his performance midway through due to a dizzy spell.
The singer has had difficulties performing this year. When Richie became ill onstage and had to abruptly abandon his concert early back in June, he was taken to the hospital.
The four-time Grammy winner was clearly upset on the first nite of Richie’s 26-city North American tour at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Richie, who is co-headlining with Earth, Wind & Fire, was made to sit down multiple times while singing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” according to videos that were circulated online at the time.

After a while, he took a break and left his band to perform for the audience for roughly fifteen minutes.
Saxophonist Dino Soldo told the crowd that Richie was “not feeling well” and that the performance would be canceled about an hour later.
After that, Richie called off two concerts in Columbus, Ohio, and Chicago.
On Instagram, he expressed his gratitude to his followers and claimed he was doing fine.

Sources familiar with the situation says the legendary singer checked out of the hospital in St. Louis Wednesday afternoon after spending 3 days under doctors’ care. The singer is now making his way back to Los Angeles.
