Accra is bracing for a major public demonstration as civic advocacy platform Democracy in Progress prepares to hit the streets on Friday, October 2, 2026. The upcoming event—officially dubbed the Citizens’ Accountability March—brings together a coalition of prominent civil society voices, including Solomon Owusu, Communications Director for the United Party (UP).

Under the banner “Democracy at Work: Accountability Is Not Persecution,” the gathering seeks to provide ordinary Ghanaians with a peaceful platform to demand strict adherence to constitutional governance, procedural integrity, and administrative fairness across public offices.

Publicly confirming his personal participation, Solomon Owusu emphasized that the rally is vital for keeping state organs responsive to the public interest, reinforcing that Ghana’s democratic machinery functions best when citizens actively hold its institutions to task.

The event is spearheaded by a joint team of conveners comprising Emmanuel Mawanye Kotin, Solomon Owusu, Ebo Buckman, and Andrew Appiah-Danquah.

  • Date & Time: Friday, October 2, 2026, starting at 7:30 AM GMT.
  • Assembly Point: Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra.
  • Dress Code: White attire—symbolizing peace, fidelity to the constitution, and civic responsibility.

A primary focal point of the demonstration will be the execution of the state’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative. While supporting the mandate to reclaim stolen public assets, organizers are demanding complete operational transparency, public updates on recovered funds, and robust legal safeguards for whistleblowers and informants who expose wrongdoing.

As part of the procession, conveners plan to deliver formal petitions directly to key constitutional bodies, demanding judicial impartiality, equal protection under the law, and unwavering respect for due process.

The planned march comes on the heels of the August 6 protest led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the slogan “Democracy Under Attack.” While opposition figures framed recent legal proceedings as politically motivated witch-hunts, Democracy in Progress offers a starkly different view: enforcing legal standards through constitutional channels is a cornerstone of good governance, not political persecution.

Organizers have reiterated that the march is strictly non-partisan, designed as an inclusive space for all citizens—regardless of party affiliation—to advocate for systemic transparency and institutional integrity across Ghana.
