Widespread frustration over economic instability and governance challenges has led many Nigerians to feel alienated from their own homeland, driving a growing desire to seek better prospects abroad.

Joining the list of prominent figures speaking out on these national struggles is celebrated musician Chidinma Ekile. The singer recently revealed that during a particularly difficult period prior to pivoting from secular to gospel music, she had attempted to leave Nigeria permanently.

Speaking at a public event, Chidinma recounted how she departed the country with the firm intention of establishing residency overseas and never coming back. However, her efforts to secure permanent status fell through.

Reflecting on that uncertain period, the artist shared that the chief executive of Eezee Conceptz was the sole individual in Nigeria who consistently kept in touch with her. His regular check-ins provided the encouragement she needed to navigate the disappointment and eventually make the journey back home.

“I traveled out—I essentially fled Nigeria,” she revealed. “I was actively working on my immigration documents so I wouldn’t have to return, but for one reason or another, the process failed.”

Upon returning to Nigeria, Chidinma reached out to the record executive with a specific request: to sign a gospel music deal so she could dedicate her life and career to her faith. She noted that the terms of the agreement were so generous and artist-friendly that her attorney likened the contract to a charitable act.

Clarifying her motivations, the songstress emphasized that her shift in musical focus wasn’t simply a career strategy, but rather a deeply personal commitment to building a closer spiritual relationship with God.
