A helicopter has crashed in the Tema Community 1 area of the Greater Accra Region, killing an estimated two to three people on board, in an incident that unfolded on the afternoon of Monday, March 16, 2026.
The aircraft, described by some sources as military, came down at or near the Oninku Drive School Park — also known as Oninku Park — close to the Tema TMA Day Care Centre. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the helicopter lose altitude before it struck the ground and burst into flames.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Police Service rushed to the scene, where charred bodies — burned beyond recognition — were recovered from the wreckage. No students or bystanders at the school park were reported to have been injured.
