Ghana’s $2.42 Billion Fashion Industry Growth And New Sustainability Push

Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has announced that the country’s fashion industry contributed approximately US$2.42 billion to the economy in 2025, accounting for about 3% of GDP while sustaining over 125,000 livelihoods in both formal and informal sectors.

Addressing attendees at Ghana’s Biggest Fashion and Beauty Expo in Accra, the Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to elevate fashion as a pivotal force for economic expansion, employment generation, and cultural diplomacy.

She outlined upcoming initiatives, including the launch of a Creative Arts Fund in 2026, the introduction of a dedicated Fashion and Textiles Month as part of the Black Star Experience, and enhanced backing for emerging creatives. The Minister also emphasised the importance of sustainable practices and increased local patronage of Ghana-made designs.

The expo united designers, brands, investors, and creatives, underscoring Ghana’s rising prominence on the global fashion stage.
