Grammy Hall of Fame: Janet Jackson Among New Inductees

Janet Jackson’s landmark album Rhythm Nation 1814 has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class — a fitting tribute to one of the most culturally resonant records in pop and R&B history.

Released in 1989, the album joins 13 other recordings in this year’s class, as announced by the Recording Academy in February 2026. The honour is reserved for recordings of qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. Rhythm Nation 1814 earns its place on the strength of both its commercial dominance and its unflinching social conscience.

The album spent four weeks atop the Billboard 200, spawning a string of hit singles while tackling racism, poverty, and the need for human unity — themes that have only grown more relevant with time. Though it did not take home Album of the Year at the Grammys, its longform music video companion earned the academy’s award for Best Music Video – Longform.

The 2026 class is a broad and distinguished one. Fellow inductees include 2Pac’s All Eyez on Me, Selena’s Amor Prohibido, Radiohead’s OK Computer, Lucinda Williams’ Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, and Heart’s Dreamboat Annie — recordings that, like Jackson’s, reshaped the musical landscape of their era.

The official celebration will take place at the Grammy Hall of Fame Gala on May 8, 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

For Jackson, the induction adds another landmark to an already towering legacy — one that includes multiple Grammy wins, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and the Icon Award at the 2025 American Music Awards.

Rhythm Nation 1814 endures not just as a pop milestone, but as a document of its times.
