Ghanaian music icon Okyeame Kwame has been officially appointed as the Feed Ghana Ambassador by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, in a strategic move aimed at strengthening public engagement in Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.

The appointment forms part of government efforts to reposition agriculture as a key driver of economic growth, food security, and youth employment. As Feed Ghana Ambassador, Okyeame Kwame is expected to play a leading role in public education campaigns, advocacy, and mobilisation of citizens—particularly young people—to actively participate in agriculture and agribusiness.

Announcing the appointment, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture highlighted the importance of using influential public figures to bridge the gap between policy initiatives and public awareness. Officials believe that leveraging the popularity and credibility of entertainers like Okyeame Kwame will help amplify messages around modern farming techniques, local food production, and the need to reduce dependence on imported food products.

Okyeame Kwame, known not only for his music career but also for his strong advocacy in health, education, and environmental sustainability, is expected to use his platform to promote agriculture as a viable and profitable career path. Over the years, he has been involved in several social impact campaigns, making him a suitable figure to lead such a national initiative.

The Feed Ghana initiative is part of a broader policy direction focused on agricultural modernisation, improved food systems, and increased private sector participation in farming and agro-processing. It is also expected to encourage innovation, value addition, and sustainable farming practices across the country.

President Mahama Promises To Make Agriculture Attractive Again In Ghana

As part of his new role, Okyeame Kwame will participate in nationwide outreach programmes, media campaigns, and stakeholder engagements aimed at reshaping public perception of agriculture. He is also expected to collaborate with institutions, farmer groups, and youth organisations to drive participation in the sector.

Reacting to this, he shared it on social media:

“My biggest present today is that I have been appointed as the feed Ghana Ambassador by the honorable Minister of food and Agriculture Honorable Eric Opoku. I promise to deliver my responsibilities with focus and formidable national pride. Thank you Lawyer Evans Amankwaa, Chief Director Mr. Paul Siameh and the whole ministry. Most importantly I wish to thank the president of the Republic of Ghana @officialjdmahama for your vision and leadership”

Government officials have expressed optimism that his involvement will significantly boost awareness and inspire a new generation of farmers and agripreneurs. The official launch of activities under his ambassadorship is expected to be announced soon.
