In an effort to improve environmental protection and preserve one of the most significant green areas in the nation, the Ghanaian government has ordered the Achimota Forest to be immediately restored to its previous status as a Forest Reserve. This decision was made by the Cabinet.
The decision upholds the government’s commitment to protecting the reserve, which is an important biological resource and recreational area in the Greater Accra Region, and undoes earlier modifications to parts of the forest.
The decision was made in response to persistent public concerns and requests for more robust protection of the Achimota Forest from encroachment and changes in land use from environmental organizations, civil society organizations, and locals.
