Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's communication team, has questioned how New Patriotic Party (NPP) spokesperson Dennis "Miracles" Aboagye was detained at Kotoka International Airport.
Ama Daaku likened Aboagye's treatment to the situation of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu in an interview with Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem on Friday, August 14, 2026.
She questioned whether anyone in Ghana saw Tamakloe-Attionu being handcuffed at the airport prior to her sentencing, claiming that Aboagye's conduct was disproportionate.
Her remarks coincide with the political controversy surrounding the detention and probe of Aboagye, who has been connected to a purported GH¢55 million financial fraud. His political rivals have defended the investigation, but reports circulating have characterized his detention at the Accra International Airport as an unwarranted show of force.
Ama Daaku's comments contribute to the escalating controversy surrounding the matter, as the government insists that institutions must be permitted to look into claims of wrongdoing while the opposition NPP questions portions of the government's handling of comparable concerns.
Ghana Is Worse Off Under NDC — Miracles Aboagye
Ama-Daaku claims that Tamakloe-Attionu's legal case has garnered significant political attention, making the comparison with her especially noteworthy. The Court of Appeal's recent acquittal and discharge of Tamakloe-Attionu has raised awareness of how prominent cases involving corruption are handled.
Ama Daaku’s central argument was that law enforcement must be firm but fair, and that the manner in which suspects are apprehended should not become a political spectacle.
The controversy over Aboagye’s arrest is therefore likely to remain part of Ghana’s wider political conversation about accountability, due process and the use of state investigative institutions.
