Environmental journalist and anti-galamsey campaigner Erastus Asare Donkor has thrown his full support behind Ghana’s new Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings in the fight against illegal mining and environmental crimes in Ghana.
According to Erastus, he is in support of Dr. Agyemang-Rawlings and her efforts to confront the growing threat posed by illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, as well as other forms of environmental destruction. His comments come amid renewed calls for stronger action to protect Ghana’s forests, rivers and other natural resources from illegal mining activities.
He wrote on his facebook page tagging Dr. Agyemang-Rawlings:
“If you are ready, Madam you have my support!!”
Erastus has over the years used investigative journalism to expose the devastating effects of galamsey on Ghana’s environment. His reporting has highlighted the destruction of forest reserves, pollution of water bodies and the activities of individuals and networks allegedly involved in illegal mining.
Ghana Seems To Have Lost The Fight Against Galamsey
His work has earned recognition from anti-galamsey campaigners, including Dr. Ken Ashigbey, who recently praised him for his persistent reporting on the menace. Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, has also been vocal about the need to intensify the fight against illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources.
Erastus’ endorsement signals a willingness to support efforts that go beyond political affiliations and focus on environmental protection and accountability.
With Ghana continuing to grapple with the effects of illegal mining, including the degradation of farmlands and pollution of rivers, calls for a united national response have intensified.
