People’s National Party (PNP) Chairperson and Leader Janet Nabla has called for the law that allows Members of Parliament (MPs) to simultaneously serve as ministers to be scrapped.
Speaking on Onua FM on August 26, 2026, Nabla argued that MPs should remain focused on their parliamentary responsibilities instead of taking up ministerial positions.
According to her, when MPs are appointed as ministers, they risk shifting the focus of government ministries toward the interests and needs of their parliamentary constituencies rather than serving the country as a whole.
“We should scrap the law that allows Members of Parliament to serve as ministers. They should stay in Parliament because when they become ministers, they turn their ministries into hubs for their constituents,” Nabla said.
Her comments form part of a broader argument for separating legislative and executive responsibilities, with MPs concentrating on lawmaking and representation while ministers focus exclusively on managing their respective ministries.

Nabla has been increasingly vocal on governance and institutional reforms as she positions her party ahead of Ghana’s 2028 political contest.
The remarks were made during her appearance on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa programme on August 26.
