Iran has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that it requested a ceasefire, calling the assertion “false and baseless.” The denial came from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, who stated on Iranian state television that Tehran has made no such appeal to the United States.
Baghaei added that the remarks attributed to Trump do not reflect Iran’s position and should not be taken seriously.
Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement reaffirming its firm control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC warned that the strategic waterway would not be opened to “the enemies of this nation” through what it called a “ridiculous spectacle” by the U.S. president.
“The Strait of Hormuz is firmly and decisively under the control of the forces of the Islamic Republic,” the statement said.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass from the Persian Gulf to international markets. Any disruption there can have major implications for energy prices and world trade.
Trump To Move Weed To Schedule III This Year
Tensions between Iran and the United States have remained high for years, with frequent mutual accusations over regional security and military activities.
Iran’s statements appear intended both to dismiss Trump’s claim and to project continued strength over the vital waterway.
