Following high-level bilateral discussions during President John Dramani Mahama’s State Visit to the Caribbean nation, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness of Jamaica and President Mahama reiterated their commitment to bolstering the long-standing friendship between Ghana and Jamaica.
Following their talks, the two leaders spoke to the media and emphasized the strong historical and cultural ties that bind the two nations, characterizing them as a strong basis for a more robust and vibrant alliance.
In order to promote sustainable economic growth and provide opportunities for the people of both countries, President Mahama and Prime Minister Holness highlighted a common vision to increase collaboration across important sectors, including as trade and investment, education, tourism, agriculture, and other areas.

Along with highlighting the necessity of advancing the Pan-African agenda through greater cooperation and joint development projects, the leaders also emphasized the significance of strengthening links between Africa and the Caribbean. They pointed out that more interaction between African and Caribbean countries will foster cultural exchange, economic growth, and a unified voice on international concerns.
In the years to come, both governments expressed hope that the agreements and conversations made during the State Visit would open the door to more collaborations, greater diplomatic engagement, and initiatives that would benefit both parties.
Travel and Agriculture
Following bilateral discussions, the two presidents have promised to strengthen their collaboration in both tourism and agriculture. They emphasized Ghana and Jamaica’s shared commitment to converting their long-standing historical and cultural links into real economic potential.
With both nations stating their commitment to advancing cultural heritage, bolstering interpersonal interactions, and creating programs that will increase tourist arrivals and investment in the tourism industry, tourism emerged as a crucial area of cooperation.
Ghana and Jamaica decided to investigate collaborations aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, boosting food security, exchanging contemporary farming techniques, and generating potential for agribusiness growth, therefore agriculture also played a significant role in the discussions.
The talks demonstrated the governments’ determination to establish a strategic alliance that uses tourism and agriculture as important foundations of shared prosperity and economic development for Ghana and Jamaica.
