Nana Akufo-Addo Should Not Be Walking Free— KKD

Nana Akufo-Addo | Kwasi Kyei Darkwa (KKD)

Veteran media figure and broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) has expressed strong opinions against Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In an interview with host Nana Romeo on Okay FM's "Ekwanso Dwoodwoo" show, KKD contended that Ghana has not held its leaders responsible for their deeds.

He claimed that both former President Akufo-Addo and Chairman Wontumi would have been subject to the full force of the law if Ghana's institutions had actually operated without fear or favor.

"Nana Addo and Wontumi would have been imprisoned together in a serious Ghana. During the interview, KKD stated, "He should not be walking free."

KKD did not go into great detail about the exact offenses he felt called for such action, but his remarks seemed to be related to the current national discussion about accountability, governance, and alleged public official corruption.

Nonetheless, others speculate that Nana Akufo-Addo defended Chairman Wontumi and even stated that the regional chairman had not engaged in illicit mining while serving as the country's president.

His comments come at a time when Chairman Wontumi's legal issues continue to dominate political discourse, with supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) sharply divided over whether ongoing legal actions are politically motivated or justified.

While some applauded KKD for being open about political responsibility, others denounced his remarks as biased, contending that accusations made against any person should ultimately be determined by the courts through due process rather than public opinion.

The outspoken broadcaster has, over the years, been known for expressing strong views on governance, leadership and national development, often urging political leaders to place Ghana's interests above partisan considerations.

His comments are about the independence of Ghana's justice system and whether public office holders should face greater scrutiny after leaving office.
