After weeks of uncertainty regarding his future with the national side, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Portuguese Carlos Queiroz have reached an agreement for Queiroz to remain head coach of the Black Stars.
A few weeks ago, Queiroz’s original mandate came to an end, which included managing Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But after talks with the GFA, the coach, and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, it was decided that he would stay on as the Black Stars commander.
Following an evaluation of Queiroz’s World Cup performance, the GFA Executive Council had already suggested that he stay in command.
After replacing Otto Addo, Queiroz was hired in April 2026 on a temporary basis to lead Ghana into the World Cup. He guided the Black Stars through the competition despite having little time to prepare. Ghana advanced to the Round of 32 before losing to Colombia 1-0.

As the Black Stars get ready for their next international engagements and the forthcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, his extended tenure also gives Ghana some security.
One of the reasons Carlos Queiroz was chosen by the GFA to guide the squad into its next phase was his vast international experience, technical expertise, and familiarity with the Black Stars.
With the decision, Queiroz and the Black Stars begin a new chapter in their history, with the emphasis now being on developing a more competitive Ghana team for the challenges ahead.
